WHY THIS MATTERS

A frequency is just a note.A note is just a frequency.Once you can translate between them, EQ stops being guesswork.

You find a horrible ring at 240 Hz and notch it out. Fine — except that ring was a B3, which happens to be the root of the track, and now the whole thing sounds hollow.

Or the kick and the bass are fighting and you can't work out why. Find the note the kick is actually playing, tune it to the key, and they stop. None of this is advanced. It just needs a translation table between notes and hertz, and that's all this is.
